Some people marry their soulmate. I somehow managed to marry my soul’s anchor. My husband Wes is the most wonderful man I could’ve ever dreamed up… and trust me, I have a very vivid imagination.

He is quiet, calm and strong in that deeply rooted way that doesn’t announce itself, but you feel it. He has a heart so golden it could be studied by alchemists. And during my cancer journey, he’s been a rock. No, scratch that. A fortress. The kind you could build a

whole kingdom around.

While I’m out here living life as part firecracker, part Road Runner, part Whack-a-Mole—pinging from one idea to the next like a hungry squirrel—Wes is the keel. The quiet, steady force that keeps me upright when the waters rise. Without him, I’d be a weather balloon with a hole in it, spinning wildly over rural Pennsylvania and getting tangled in someone’s wind chimes.

What makes Wes even more lovable, if that’s possible, is his joyful disposition. He’s just genuinely happy. Not in a performative way. In the dependable, loving, Golden Retriever way. Willing to carry the heavy stuff without ever asking for credit.

I’m so glad I introduce you to him. I love this. I will be reading it all the time.
