They say you can tell a lot about a man by his walk. Confidence? Determination? Charm? Well, if that’s true, then my husband, Wes’s distinctive walk—the swagga” —is a legendary masterpiece.
It’s kind of like a cross between a duck on a mission and a cowboy who’s just spent way too long in the saddle. It’s part waddle, part saunter, with a hint of "I own this, and I can’t help it." Watching him walk is like watching a nature documentary in which the narrator can’t decide if the subject is majestic or just lost. And it’s pure magic.
Now, don’t get me wrong. This unique stride isn’t something he picked up by accident. No, no, no. It’s entirely instinctual—a blend of casual coolness with slight unpredictability. You’re never sure if he’s headed to the fridge, the couch, or to conquer a small country.
The swagga first caught my attention early in our relationship. I remember sitting on a park bench, watching him approach from a distance, thinking, Is he injured? Or John Wayne? Turns out, it was neither. It was just … Wes.
What makes it even better is how completely unaware he is of it. Ask him about his stride, and he’ll blink at you, completely oblivious. “What swagga? I just walk.” Oh, sweet child o’ mine. You do not just walk. You perform.
It’s especially entertaining when we’re out in public. We’ll stroll through the grocery store, and I’ll glance back to find Wes in full swagger mode, weaving through the aisles like he’s on a catwalk. And forget about his speed walk ... I’ll save that for another story.
Even our dogs have picked up on it. Tucker, our goldendoodle, has started mimicking Wes’s stride during walks, complete with the slightly exaggerated hip sway. It’s like watching a duckling follow its dad.
But here’s the thing: The swagga is charmingly Wes. It’s a reflection of his easygoing nature, his confidence without ego, and his ability to make people smile without even trying. Sure, it’s quirky. Sure, it’s mildly confusing. But it’s also endearing—just like him.
So, here’s to Wes and his unforgettable walk. It’s not just a stride; it’s a statement. A declaration that life is meant to be taken one confident, duck-cowboy step at a time. Quack! Quack!
